42 reasons to move to the cloud in 2018

With the imminent release of my new book, Private, hybrid and public clouds, I made this blog to interact with you. (a couple of months after its French sibling, and the already published book).

It will be the focal point of the book updates. It will amplify and deepen some of the key messages. I will also comment cloud news. Updates are permanent.

To post regularly and provide quality information, I will be posting a list of the best reasons to go to the cloud. There will be many in the book and some will be repeated here. And, I will also develop others. I will post them every week, on Wednesdays, throughout 2018.

While there are 52 weeks in a year, and 2018 is no exception to the rule, I stopped on the figure of 42. Why 42? For two reasons:

  1. The first, rational, is that between holidays and my business trips, I will miss some weeks. A dozen seems reasonable, but not extravagant.
  2. The second, less rational, is that 42 is the answer to the Ultimate question of Life, the Universe, and Everything! Some of you will understand. If not, look for Douglas Adams!

Every week or so, you’ll have at least one reason to go to the cloud, developed here, as well as other news according to my moods, the news or the weather (cloud is cloud business, isn’t it?). Cloud’s technologies are fascinating and promising incredible developments in the years to come.

One of the key points is that I am convinced that this is not going to stop. But, it is not an irrational feeling but based on the focus the computer industry has. Microsoft still realizes less than 20% of its turnover in the cloud. The penetration rate, varying by country, is not yet 50% in the enterprise. Internet of things, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing are only in their infancy. These are markets valued at several hundred billion dollars! If those technologies interest you, you are contemplating the next 20 years of growth. Full days, nights and weekends, well filled!

This is a new adventure! 18 years after my last book (SQL Server 2000, Editions Eyrolles). I hope you will find many benefits!
